    Parts suppliers

Is there a real difference in quality of parts sold by various suppliers?

    #2
Depends on the part, some have alternative manufacturers, some have had to be remade specially ( and Rimmers are usually the ones to do this as they are the only company big enough to fund it)

LD parts have a very good reputation, but even he can only source some parts from the same places as others, I have had parts from him that have come in Rimmers packaging.

Agreed. Peter at LD Part does seem to spend time making sure that the parts he sells do what they are expected to do, and makes a note on the website if there is any short-coming.

Isn't there something on his website saying that many of the parts he sells have been tried and tested on their own vehicle? I've only bought a few bits from him but the quality has been good.

It’s right there on his homepage. http://www.ldpart.co.uk/shop/shop.ph...ac30d95c5b84a3

Peter has run his Damson Mk1 Stag for many, many years and uses it as a test bed for many parts he sells. Some years ago it passed the 200,000 miles mark.

Rimmer Bros does come in for a bit of a bashing every now and then........but personally I think thats because they are the largest of the suppliers, so its no wonder there will be more people that have had an issue with them. I guess time to mention Robsport, Wards and LD Parts so they get equal mention in this post. (I have no affiliation).

From my experience, all the suppliers have a passion for classic cars - they wouldnt be specialising if they didn't. Shop around, as there is sometimes a bit of a difference pricewise!

And, not forgetting the Club's first parts supplier, Stuart Soutter at SOC Spares.

As others have said, LD, Robsport are good, as are SOC Spares and I have nothing but praise for Stuart at SOC when I had some issues with some parts recently. He helped me sort my problem with advice and shipped replacement parts and refunded returned parts without quibble and at no cost to me for the return process.

Thanks very much all. I ended up getting parts from various suppliers dependant on what they had in stock.

If I'm doing a particular task then I try to get all the parts from one supplier. It makes life easier I think if there are issues as it avoids the possibility of being stuck (for want of a better word) between suppliers when trying to resolve any problems.
