Engine number location photo

I note that the engine number should be stamped on the back of the engine block, behind the distributor where the engine is bolted to the bell housing. My engine is out of the car and I cannot find the number. Can someone show a photo of their engine number (please delete part of the number if sensitive) to help me locate mine? We bought the Stag in 1985 and cant believe the engine block does not have a number. Thank you

Or it might be in the other position which, according to James Taylor, is " Stamped on a cast boss between the two rearmost spark plugs on the L/H cylinder bank . (Plugs 6 & 8.)
Perhaps someone could provide a photograph?

On this engine it’s between cylinders 2 and 4

I thought I remember it being there on the Mk I I had many years ago, but I didn't like to argue with James Taylor!

Thank you to all of you. I have finally found the number which is in the normal position behind the Distributor / Core plug position. It was very feint and I needed to carefully remove all the paint. Delighted to see that this is the original engine number for the car.

Make sure when car being inspected in case you don’t know the chassis/vin number is on the plate on the b post of Lh door, Ignore numbers on front bonnet skuttle as this is body number used for identification while body being built and should be painted. The second unpainted plate is a sales number. Hope that helps.
