The trouble is these days many towns, including our nearest one, Skipton only have supermarket petrol so you're limited for choice. There used to be around 10 small independent forecourts but they've all closed over the last 40 years or so

Honest John (of Saturday Telegraph fame) may be able to advise on this as this also comes up regularly on his Q&As. Even for modern cars the recommendation is to go for Shell super V power, or the equivalent from the other oil majors.
i found my Stag after a run is problematic to start when just refuelled using supermarket “cooking” 95 Octane. I switched to 98 Octane and however hot, the engine will fire up on the button. I will consider buying the more expensive stuff from the oil majors’ retail outlets if supermarket or Esso go in the direction of I creasing the ethanol content in fuel.

I remember a time driving down the road from Langcliffe to Settle, sometime around midnight and travelling very fast, there was a herd of cows in the road. I just managed to stop in time.... Great days, the late '80's!

The black rubber isn’t, or at least if it is, it wouldn’t have much life with mineral based fuels. It should be N.B.R or H.N.B.R. not E.P.D.M.
This does seem to be lost on many of our specialists suppliers though. The only parts that must be E.P.D.M. Are the brake seals.

Sorry I am so cynical just bitter experience.

So as above I would hold off replacing unless you have a reason to change, just show a little common sense and carry out a quick visual inspection more frequently.

..and whether it is E10 or E5 it always makes sense to carry a fire extinguisher.

After a few bad experiences buying "quality ethanol proof/compatible" hose from various suppliers and having it disintegrate after 6 months even though it was labelled as R9, I now only buy it from Car Builder Solutions (google them), not much more expensive and it seems to be good quality - so far.

Can anyone recommend a petrol stabiliser, primarily to keep the petrol "fresh"?

Dont know if its available UK, but STA-BIL gets a good rep.. but it cannot address any water problems with E10, just keeps the fuel fresh as you say. just keep the tank full and prevent water ingress for that.

                  Basically avoid anything with ethanol..

Can you explain what this means please. I have just tried looking for this but I can find only stuff marked R6 (no good apparently) or R9??

                    Please excuse my ignorance.

Thanks Trunt, STA-BIL is available in the UK.
I will get some to go in the one gallon (5 litres, ish) container that I keep in the boot.

Just as well as both my Stag and Maserati have had little to no usage this year so far with covid-19.

I looked on Esso's website and it said my local station sold it...perfect... except when I got there they did not sell it... I thin they haven't updated their website for years...
