Federal door mirrors,is rear view any better than the uk version
Does anyone have the Federal door mirrors fitted to be able to draw a comparison with the rear view you get from the pretty useless UK version.
In other words are they any better.?
I have different mirrors on mine I am sure they are original but have no idea if they are federal or not, can anyone show a picture of federal mirrors to assist in identifying them ?
covex glass replacements cost about 6 quid.. worth a punt??
I dumped my federal mirror as there was only one, it needed re-chromed and I did not see one that did not.. too expensive! but I have never driven tha car so can't comment!
I have federal mirrors on mine.
I've had them for probably 20 years so comparison to modern car mirrors they are poor, and probably not much in it compared to a tex mirror.
Saying that, they do the job, and in my opinion are the best looking mirror and why I fitted them.
I bought mine from US ebay, they are AMC mirrors.
I used jaguar interior trim bezels, so a bit mix and match.
They are extremely difficult to strip down for rechroming, due to the crimp cabling on the joy stick, but it is possible, i managed it.
As above, definitely not the best rear view. I fitted some new jaguar ones, left and right and changed the handle to the stag one to fit the door card better. I just bought some new manual XJS mirrors and will see if they are better. I have seen a Stag with the XJS mirrors so …..
I have the one Federal mirror. It is small, but I find the easy adjustment helps when backing up for instance. I feel it adds to the character, but I rarely drive on bigger roads so dont worry about file change like many of you probably do.
My Spitfire has bullet mirrors, they are close to useless...
