Exhaust Manifolds - options for tidying them up

I am keen just to tidy up and clean the engine bay and would like to hear on what others have done in regard to the exhaust manifolds - photos would be good
im not that bothered about going down the tubular route so what if anything have you done to your cast iron ones ?
anyone gone done the route of coating them professionally or maybe used something called Slip plate graphite lubricant which I read an article on.
    any photos would be appreciated

    Hi Darren

I will upload a picture of mine later this week. It is what Faversham does to clean up / refurb the cast iron versions.

    Thanks

BMW Camcoat. (Not the car company, but Bite-My-Wallet Camcoat)

Thanks - they look great very original, so there is a coating on there rather than the fact they have just been cleaned ? I guess the coating just stops them getting grubby again or is it coloured in some way ?

          Thanks Darren

a cheaper option than cam coat would be exhaust paint in whatever colour you fancy the coating on my tubular manifolds was more than the manifolds cost

Yes. Camcoat is a ceramic coating - I assume it is like a glass powder which is baked on at very high temperature. There are several finishes available - I chose the CG Colourguard "Iron". About 13 years ago I had my Group 1 Escort Manifold (also cast iron) done and it's holding up well.

The Stag manifold casting is really rough, so don't expect Camcoat to make a silk purse out of this sow's ear! In the past I'd done manifolds wiht VHT spray paint but wouldn't say that it really cuts the mustard. Camcoat is, however, not cheap, in 2010 I paid £230 for the two Stag manifolds.

Having tried VHT (lasted a few months)& ceramacrome ( lasted 3/4 years) I bit the bullet & ground off all the pits & rust then shot blasted then got vitreous enamel in mid grey. Wasn’t cheap, but has lasted well.

Thanks - I spoke to a supplier today who also mentioned Eastwoods who do a high temperature paint which apparently works well, i suppose they all look good to start with, but not necessarily after a few years

Exhaust wrap then you can apply a coating over the top if you want it to look pretty.
