Wheel Trims - ensuring they stay on!

I have a mark 1 and like it or not I want to keep the wheel trims and steel wheels and do not wish to invest in alloys. There we are, got that out of the way. I am investing a lot of money in refurbishing five of the wheel trims that I own. I am having the "fake" zinc wheel nuts, five on each trim (of course you all know this!) chromed, and have had the circular piece of steel behind the trim, which attaches to the steel wheel, powder coated in gloss black. The black sections on the face of the wheel trim has been painted in satin black. Doing all this work has been a mission and what I do not want, is when I bring the car out in April, is for one, or worse, more than one of those trims to come flying off the wheels!

Is there anyone in this lovely Club and moreover in this forum who has a tip/suggestion that will ensure that the wheel trims actually stay put on the wheels! There must be other members who run their cars with and have adopted the use of steel wheels and wheel trims and have encountered such an issue?

I am very much appreciative for any suggestions. Please don't make them witty or sarcastic.

    All the best

    Terry

PS Acquired my car last September and I am presently in the enhancing and refurbishing stage.

I often see wheel trims secured with zip ties.

Not the most "aesthetic" fix, but it works.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Yes, this does work for modern cars with steel wheels that have holes in them. Sadly a Stag wheel is a solid steel wheel with no such holes, so zip ties will simply not work!

Ah, that's a good idea that wasn't so good then.

The wheel trims attach to the wheels by means of a ring of metal which clips over the three lugs on each wheel. If you note where this ring aligns with each of these lugs, just bend the ring inwards slightly making it more secure.

            Plus 1 for DJT's advice.
We have steel wheels and trims on our '74 mkII and they are secured well by the method described.
The issue we do have is that one of them at least rattles - I think it is one or more of the fake wheel nuts on the trim that I need to tighten somehow.

What I do is to put a piece of Gaffer tape over each of the securing points on the wheel. It stops any rattle, and over the past 30,000 miles I haven't had one fall off yet!

My dad wishes that he had this information throughout the 70s and 80s on various cars with wheel trims

Yes I did have a thought about double sided tape. The wheels have been blasted and powder coated in silver and then have had a top coat of matt silver which matches the original colour adopted by Triumph. Hopefully the gaffer tape and/or the double sided tape does not pull off the paint.

Great tip though and I will be adopting this.

That's a good idea, I'll try that as it might help the my rattling.
