Thank you. Both these are pretty good. The MK2 gives me a guide to the wiring colours I should expect to see. If anyone has something that tells you what the symbols are that would be a help too.

Thank you all! I have already sorted the clock, the cigarette lighter and lamp and the dash lighting. Using a compination of the diagrams and the body connection codes, I have started to work my way around the car. At the moment the interior courtesy lighting works ok (thank goodness) so I shall steer clear of it.

If you are handy with Paint programme on the computer and have time to kill. You can make your own wiring diagram with your own adjustments added. That way, you really get to know the wiring detail.
I did that for my car, but - 40oC winters here give lots of indoor time for such projects.
Unfortunately, it won't be useful for you because it's a MkI federal without A/C.

Hi Martin - they are just brass ring terminals used to earth the cables to the bodywork.
