    Outer Door Weatherstrip Removal Steps

    Hi Guys,
I am currently removing the door trims and removing all the handles and rubber fittings to both doors. I cannot find any steps on removing the outer window weatherstrips for fitting of the new ones that I have sourced as a replacement. Any other owners out there that have replaced these can you please share your steps and tricks to doing this job successfully.

I have recently replaced the rubber weather seal in the outer window trims. The old seals took a bit of wriggling to get them out and then I carefully cleaned the grooves in the metal part with white spirit. Use plenty of diluted washing up liquid on the new strip and then ease the rubber along the groove. Do one strip at a time so you can check it's going in correctly, also ensure that when the rubber is fully in it is not stretched. Only trim the rubber to length when you have fitted the frame and glass to the door and you have trial fitted the trim to the window opening.

Your real fun will start when you actually come to fit the weather seal trim to the door. If that's where you need advice let me know

    Cheers Mac

      Hi Mac,
Does that mean you have to remove the glass and frame?? Or can you just prise the chrome outer moulding from the outer top door frame with the seal attached?? Any photos of the operation also??

Sorry for delay, but as you have removed the trim you now know the frame and glass don't have to be removed. I have just had a bare metal respray so everything had to be refitted and I know recently there was a query as to whether the trim could be fitted first and then the frame, but that is not the case.

you will almost certainly need the special tool for pulling the clips up into place, available from most Stag suppliers, Rimmers show it under accessories. This tool is inserted between glass and trim and with a little blue tack to hold the clip in the tool, slide it along to where you need the clip and making sure both the trim and the inside edge of the door are located in the top of the trim, pull the tool sharply upwards. If you are using new clips I suggest you first ease them slightly by pushing a medium size flat bladed screwdriver into the clip.

Try as I might I couldn't get a clip to fit under the quarter light, but as I used a thin bead of clear mastic between the door skin and the trim I felt that missing that clip was not a problem.

unfortunately I didn't take any photos on this job. What did help was that the door handles were not fitted, making it much easier to slide the tool to the handle aperture and pop a clip into the tool. This way the glass could be wound down which I found made it easier to see where I was locating each clip.

          Hope that helps.
          Cheers Mac

same here, but I managed it with a modified screwdriver from within the door itself. Screwdriver sawn off and modified with a slot to hold the clip, then tapped upwards with a small mallet to get the clip on. To be honest, I pushed all of the clips home with a blunt screwdriver from inside the door as that tool only managed to pull a couple of clips fully home.

            The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137
