    Rear exhaust mounts

    Hi

Could anyone please give me some advice on how to fit the exhaust mounts that hold the exhaust through the rear mounts.

I’ve spent all day trying to fit and getting nowhere. The clamp bits are two small for the pipe. When I open them out the bolts are not long enough.

To be honest it’s doing my head in. It so over engendered.

When I fitted mine I opened out as you describe then removed all washers etc from the clamp and used a C clamp to apply a bit of compression to enable fitting. Once fitted and tightened there was enough shrinkage to allow undoing and the washers to be refitted and finally clamped up.

      But yes, tight tolerences.

Yes, it's working for me - unfortunately I'm not in a position to offer any help. I'm sure experienced others will be along soon.

It is an absolute b*st*rd of a job. I have only ever done it using a two-post lift and a huge amount of swearing. I don’t think there’s any easy way if, like me, you insist on using the proper clamps and fittings.

As Richard says. After a few times you get used to it and it's not soooo bad. Mine are just stanrad items from Rimmers. Getting a comfort dog helps.

Hi, To centralize mine I made 3 small wooden wedges and tapped them in around the pipes through the sub-frame to hold it all in place. I use the standard clamps and not any problems with them.

I found this job was an excellent way to run through my total vocabulary of swearwords. I may even have invented some new ones.

Thank you all for the support. At least I know I’m on the right tract and I’m going to learn a few more words in the English language before done.

Just used the small wedge method to hold in place whilst i did the clamps up. pipes look central to the subfame holes. I loosened the clamps just before the tail pipe as well to allow the pipes to move freely

Well they are on and done. Had to use longer bolts than rimmer supplied as they were too short. All in position now and also clear of the handbreak cable which became a problem on the nearside because of the angle of the central silencer.

Hope I never have to do them again and if I do i'll make sure the bolts are long enough in the first place!!

                      Thank you all.
