Whilst I have my Stag 5 feet up in the air with no engine or gearbox to get in the wayI decided to remove all the underseal and give the bottom a good clean and repaint the engine bay.
I knew it had been Ziebarted from new and most of the underside was covered with sticky dirty waxy stuff. It was only lifting in a couple of the wheel arches where there was some other harder stuff applied.
The ziebart came off easy with paraffin and I was surprised to see that the entire floor and tunnel had no top colour coat it was only on factory primer (fantastic condition, good advert for Ziebart). You could see where they have sprayed the boot floor, engine bulkhead and sills with colour and it just tapered off to primer on the floor pans. Before you say 'its had new floors etc' I know it hasn't and anyway who would replace the entire centre tunnel?
My car was the 'last but one' made and it begs the question, were the sprayers being made redundant shortly after mine went passed, were they running out of paint or was it they simply couldn't give a ****?
