Hi Dave, solid gaskets don’t normally need sealant, softer ones do, depending on the environment ( temp ) and location ( pressure ) will dictate what’s needed
For most things .. Hylomar Blue. I worked in the Airforce thats what they use... Really good
Also, you can squeeze a whole tube into a container, let it dry, it becomes putty that can be moulded into a thick gasket by itself ( heat it to mould it)
