    main bearings and big ends

    Hi All
As part if my stags restoration i've stripped most of the engine down so that i now have the heads off and just the block on an engine stand, i thought i'd remove the bottom part of the main bearing from the sump the 3 middle-ish ones are worn down to copper and the end ones seem ok, i was wondering if anyone had taken on the job of doing new main bearings and big end bearing themself and how they found it, is it an easy-ish job?, whats involved? or can anyone reccomend a how to guide or instructions to do the process?

    Thanks in advance

The original workshop manual is a good investment and will supply the dimensions need to check the crankshaft pistons and cylinder liners against for wear, if also describes the replacement of both crank main and big end bearings (also con rod little ends) which is relatively straightforward especially against the timing chain fitments etc which is more complicated. but described in detail. There are also DVDs or YouTube how to descriptions available also.
