    Strut top mount tear.

    Hi All,

With lock down finally got around to replacing the gaiters on the struts today, and discovered a small tear on the drivers side strut rubber insulation mounts.

As photo is this considered severe enough to warrant replacement?

    appreciate your comments.

If it were me i would replace it. In fact when i do mine again i will be using the timken roller bearing ones now available.

Agree replace - why risk it?

Replace it, for sure. But beware of the Indian ones that are around, the bolts are too long (and make a nice dent in the bonnet stiffening strip) and the rubber is poor quality. As soon as I've finished rewiring my accessories and put the dash back in, I'll be stripping the Indian ones out of mine to fit some genuine NOS ones...

That damaged one will probably last longer than the repro ones, and unfortunately I speak from experience. My last repro lasted less than 2 years and 5000 miles and has been replaced with another repro.
Fortunately I have since sourced a pair of originals which no doubt I will be fitting in the not too distant future.

I too was very disappointed with the quality of replacement strut top mounts and will probably end-up replacing them with the roller-bearing type.
I would replace that split rubber ASAP.

Chris Witor is quoting a 5 year rubber bonding warranty on his top mounts so sounds like they might be better than the usual rubbish rubber parts.

Chris's rubber mounts are manufactured in Australia not the usual places!!

I remember reading a Practical Classic mag a few years back. Some guy was working on a Triumph 2000.

He bought some of these out of Australia https://k-mac-camber-kits.com/product/triumph-2000-roadster-2-5pi-stag-63-77-front-stage3-full-race-780716k3/

With Chris Witor making those bushes at the bottom which can adjust the camber caster, there is no real need.

                  not cheap. Sujit
