    CV Driveshafts

Taken my rear suspension off during the enforced period of no golf, to find one of my CV joints is knacked. The cage holding the balls to the inner race is cracked which is annoying. Have contacted SC, they're seeing what they can do to help. No receipt unfortunately, the shafts came with the car.

Anyway the main reason for posting this is to give any of you with these fitted who didn't fit them personally (or have them done for you) a heads up that because of the vagaries of the Stag rear axle set up you need to have a spacer between the diff output flange and the driveshaft sliding joint. SC have sent me the info to measure but worth checking you have spacers if you have these driveshafts fitted.

Changed the diff seals and pinion bearing as well as looking at the poly bushes. The trailing arm ones are fine but the big subframe ones have some damage so not quite fit and forget. I don't know how long they have been there.

Still the trailing arm and subframe have come up ok. Why would anyone put underseal on the trailing arms?

My driveshafts look awfully similar to these, but are from Rimmers (311914CV) manufactured by CDD I believe.
I have no spacers fitted, but I don't think there is much room for them, here is only a relatively small amount of lateral play as there is.
Could you copy me with details of what you need to measure, order and fit please?
    Thanks,
    Den

Hi Den, mine are definitely from SC and look like this Screenshot 2020-04-09 at 15.18.12.png

The Rimmer ones do indeed look like CCD ones which are visually different, not sure about internals. I would think calling CCD to ask them would be better than using SC methods on non-SC products just in case you don't need to do anything?

The ones sold by Rimmers are CDD units as I’ve had confirmed by CDD themselves, the SC ones are not the same. The CDD ones listed for a Stag are made specifically for the Stagand do not need additional spacers.
The SC ones are generic I believe and have to be adapted for different cars.

From the original post you could get these races repaired by a qualified engineer/wielder. However, these are more than likely from a mainstream car eg Ford Mondeo. I very much doubt these are a one-off made just for the Stag.

Thats a bit alarming i always thought ploy bushes were fit and forget, i was going to fit ploys to my car in the same area,do you know how long they been in place ? and you also get different Quality bushes what make are they

on your trailing arms have you but clear lacquer to protect the paint/shine
