    MK 2 windscreen rubber

    Hi guys,
I've got a windscreen to fit, and wonder if anyone has a new windscreen rubber surplus to requirements of decent quality, that they wish to sell, or advise who supplies the best quality/fit.
I can't decide whether to have a go at fitting it myself, or pay to have it done.
I have read all the threads about the pitfalls, but quite like a challenge!
    many thanks,
    Peter

    Hi Peter
I did mine myself,no problem, but fit the top of the screen in first, not the bottom (as you would normally expect too).It won't go in bottom first.
Feed the rope in the frame groove,in the seal, with the ends at the top.
I fitted the chrome trim last but I've read it's easier to fit it in the seal before the screen goes in the frame.

    Cheers
    Steve

Bought my seal from Tony Hart's Ebay shop, perfect fit, rubber and screen went in fine but the chrome trim was a struggle, tried several ways to fit it then spoke to Tony and he suggested Iuse the same method as fitting the screen but with thinner rope, worked a treat.

This is a singular nightmare that you can avoid for a mere £50, get someone with Stag experience to fit it ! Stay well away from Autoglass and their ilk, they only know how to fit glue in ones, believe me - it WILL leak. Martin.

I worked this out as well, I tried fitting the trim before fitting the whole lot to the car, but it came off, so it ended up being the last thing fitted. I think this works out best because you can check that the trim isn't bent, it seems that if it is at all twisted then it won't sit properly - or not fit at all, once the screen is fitted you can check the trim is ok by laying it on the seal.

If the trim is bent then it might fit to the seal before it goes into the car because it can pull the seal - but the sealand maybe the screen itselfare going to bepulled in a different direction once they're on the car.

To fit the trim I put a thin cord around the inside trim lip, and pulled it at a right angle outwardsto the trim which flips the lip into the inside edge of the trim. It needs to be done slowly of course and I had to use a blunt screw driver to help push the outside edge under the trim.

            John.
