    mk2 wiper parking problem

Hi, My mk2 wipers will not park, they operate ok on slow and fast speeds. I have stripped the motor and the brushes are within the minimum lenght at 7mm for earth and slow and 9mm for fast. I have read all the other posts on the park switch and as far as I can tell there should be permanent power to the green wire at the park switch. I have 12v there. I have cut open an old park switch as attached pictures. as far as i can see there is no physical connection between the permanant live and the slow speed brush. the 3 connections on the switch are permanent live (green) left connection, intermitant feed green/brown in the normal position and pemanent live (green) and the earth brush (blue green) (black on the plug) when the switch is depressed. I have obtained a new park switch (for a jaguar XJ6) and they still won`t park. Am I missing something? all help appreciated, thanks in advance Derek (sorry for the repeat pictures I cannot see how to delete them)

I spent hours trying to get wipers on a mk2 to work years back. If I recall from memory I had no speed 2 or park. This seems odd, but have you checked the heath of the contacts in the stalk on the steering wheel? I think it may have to do with the option where you flip the stalk once to wipe once only. Sorry for vagness.
There's a hook on the end of the wire is that OK. I think that goes into the switch.

Try referring to any of these. The one from VTR helped me.

Are you sure the plunger is plunging.. ISTR that someone reported something missing inside the mechanism that operates that switch.

I had the same problem and proceeded to make it worse before I fixed it. I also stripped down checked and regreased the motor. Then inserted the white sliding nylon piece that activates the plunger/switch back to front. Result it broke off the plunger when I turned the wiper on. Anyway, point of the story is I spent quite a bit of time trying to replace the switch, which may be your best solution. I purchased a secondhand wiper motor from Stag breaking guru, Tony White, just for the switch. I have seen some references here to a new switch produced for Jaguar which also works. The switch itself has some adjustment, which at the end of the day, was probably all I needed to do in the first place...

I believe the switch available at Barratts will do - it looks identical, but you could contact them to check. I recall that this replacement has been tried before, but no feedback on its success. See post #4 on
Hi, Please could anyone tell me where I can get a Mk 2 wiper park switch from. Lucas number 54701577/Triumph Number 12453A. Thanks very much, Mark.

Thank you for all your replies, I am sure the plunger is operating correctly and the plastic shuttle is the correct way round. i have stripped the switch and I know I have power for both slow and fast speed at the plug connection on the motor and it runs at both speeds, I did obtain a jaguar switch and it still won`t park, Thank you for the trouble shooting guides etc I will study them in great detail. thanks again for your help, I will report back, Derek

Is yours a mk 2 or mk1,just reread you say you have thermal delay so its mk2 The switch you mhave cut open is that a Stag park switch or the Jaguar one,are you sure the jaguar switch is right for the stag

                    are the contacts clean enough

Hi yes its an old park switch from a stag that I cut open, the jaguar switch I tested for continuity between the contacts before fitting it, they were identical to the stag switch. I suspect a fault in the stalk switch and need to get it out of the car again, the cables are laid correctly in the metal trunk down the column so its not the easiest job to get it off the car , Derek

Do you have a spare switch you could just plug in with out pulling the wires out of the clamp, personally i think its a fault with the park switch, when you have it mounted back in the wipper motor want pushes on the button, there must be a leaver or some thing, havent got any thing at hand to look at

Success at last! I have found a break in the brown /light green wire at the multipin plug preventing power getting back to the motor. I dont have a thermal relay fitted as it packed up some time ago and I have not been able to get a replacement. this wire was not therefore being used and the break was not noticed. Thank you to everyone who replied and for all the useful advice offered. Another triumph for the forum
