There has been a few recent posts on fuel pumps and systems etc but I would like to know what checks I can carry out on my pump which is currently off the car. It is the original pump since 1977 and the car has been in storage since 1987. I tried connecting a 12v supply across the terminals but nothing. Not even one click. Any advice greatly appreciated.

If it's not ticking then the pump is faulty - it should tick fast when on the bench.
You need to repair (http://sucarb.co.uk/su-fuel-pumps-sp...-pre-1985.html) or replace or (even better IMHO) repair and upgrade your existing pump to electronic with a Burlen conversion kit (http://sucarb.co.uk/su-fuel-pumps-sp...arth-12-v.html).
If you replace the pump make sure that the output pressure of the new pump is within spec (many 'replacement' pumps output too much pressure and cause flooding issues).

Afternoon all,
Have you tried the age-old mechanic's cure of a good "thwack" with either a plastic or hide-faced Thor hammer (ah, the good old days !!) or the butt end of a conventional hammer ??
If still "no tick" then time for points file/contact cleaner..if still no go, time to dig deeper. Best of luck.
