Since the modern radio is drawing power why not opt for one of those solar powered battery trickle chargers, don't cost alot. I will be getting one and do a rotation on my cars, getting fed up having to charge them.

Here here, trouble is you need a very small friend, but that could well be the answer. Modern radios etc draw so little current it's barely measureable in real terms. Martin.

              couple of things.

Even though you have a new battery it doesn't mean that it isn't at fault. Halfrauds do a nice line in checking battery health on the spot and FOC. I guess that this is the first point of call.

Have you got a tracker device fitted, the battery for these things is rechargeable and when it dies it simply drains your main car battery over night.

Check the alternator, mine was shagged and although it charged the battery it did the oposite over night. replaced alternator and mine holds charge again. Though if I leave the car for more than a week I disconnect the battery.

              Regards

Advantage of a Mk 1 is you can see through the lens of the glovebox door if the light is on or not. Quick way to rule it out though would be to remove the bulb

Or you could use your digital camera, set it to record on video mode, put it in the glove box and close theglove box door. When you retreive the camera and play the clip back you will see if the lighthad gone out.

                        regards,

                        Raoul

Got to go with the battery being the culprit. 1970's vehicles are a lot simpler electronic wise and it usually is a short list of culprits. The battery should be o.k. for 2 - 3 weeks even with a parasitic drain.
I had a similar issue with an Austin ZT260 last year (2023) and I purchased a new battery as the other one was 4 years old and drain problems were happening. Problem persisted and I took the batteries (old and new - both Exide 096 ) to B&G who re-charged them for me. The "New" battery took took 48 hours to become fully charged but the 'old' battery was topped up within 24 hours. Strange I thought but the issue continued. Two elec tech later (and a lightened wallet) I purchased yet another battery (Yuasa) and have not had any issues since. Of course the seller of the 1st new battery produced "pass" figures when put on his test equipment so no grounds for a refund. Life is too short to pursue £80 when the print-out is against one. :-(

Absolutely, but thought it might be helpful if any "new" battery is not discounted in the issue of a quick drain of a "charged" battery. The problem with forum questions/issues is that many do not post the final outcome, as in this case.
