    Has anyone Modified CD 175 s ?

Does anyone have experience of the after-market adjustable jets that Southern Carburetters are advertising ?
I really struggle to get my fixed Jet carbs running evenly and considering the modification despite the cost (approx. £50 x2).
    Regards
    Alan.

not modified mine other than regulating the fuel pressure to 2.5psi. Made a world of difference and allowed for a dead easy tune up

It does need a bit of patience to get them properly set up, but with the right fuel pressure, the correct levels, and the temperature compensating valves clean and set up, you really shouldn't have any trouble with them. I may have been lucky, but I have never been tempted to change them for something else.

Not 100% sure, but the s.c. Jets might not fit a stag....too tight against the cam covers.

Am I being dim ? Why would you need adjustable jets when you have adjustable needles assuming all other settings are in tolerance?

The last time I rebuilt my Stroms I set up the needles, butterflies and the floats using a DTI so both carbs had an exact setting to start from.
I also fiited Viton tip valves.
Since I did this the car has run like a dream, it starts and idles perfectly and the performance is excellent.
I didn’t replace anything else when I did this apart from the diaphragms.

I don’t know about fitting adjustable jets but as Niallcat says, if you can adjust the needles adjusting the jets would have no benefit I can see.

            Cheers,

            Mike

Niall, I am sure it is me being dim - not you. The reason why I have felt that adjustable jets would be of use is that I have always switched off the engine before adjusting the needle. Whereas I reckon being able to adjust the jet while the engine is running would be so much easier and quicker.
As you can probably tell, I was brought up on S.U. carbs. Possibly one of you (or all of you) will tell me that you do your adjustments with the engine running ? Then I will know that it is me being dim !. many thanks to all of you.
              Regards

Yes mixture can be adjusted with the engine running, take the piston dampers out and use the stromberg mixture adjustment tool

Thanks all for the advice. I am now happy, and probably £100 better off (until I pass the local wine merchants)! Regards and stay safe. Alan
