    Non standard colours. Resale values

    Hi all.
So I am going to look at a car on Wednesday now the restrictions have changed a little (obviously I will be social distancing etc). The car is a 75 Mk2 auto that has been resprayed in metallic red. I think the car looks great but what are peoples opinions of having to move on a car in a completely non dtandard colour should I ever need to sell it?
    All help much appreciated. Thanks

Absolutely not an issue in my opinion unless you are looking to sell to the very small number of originality buffs. Metallic red is a great colour on these cars. If it’s the one on eBay I would have plenty of questions - see eBay thread

My opinion is that a car in its original paint, not just the colour, it has a certain value, it might also indicate that the panels had not had too much remedial work. Many resprays whether original colour or not from a few years ago exhibit micro blistering and that would need to be for inspected carefully and perhaps corrected in the medium term.

But if the respray is a good one and you like the colour then do not worry about retail values. You might sell it at a slightly lower price, but then you would be buying at a slightly lower price.

Doubtful that classic car ownership is ever a good financial bet.

        Alan

Nice colour and nicely set off by the wheels. Looks lowered in the pic, I would want to know about he springs/any suspension changes. Good luck

I'd say it doesn't matter what colour it is if the car is a good one, and you like it, then it's worth buying. Whatever colour you have, someone on here will have a pop at it, be it brown, white, yellow, whatever. The only one that seems to have universal approval is Mallard....

I don't think that resale value is anything to be concerned about when buying a classic car. You buy it, you drive it, it brings a huge smile to your chops. The end.

It doesnt matter about the colour, the car looks nice in the photos, looks like the guy has spent a few bob on it, when you go to look at it look around front carpets for signs of water and up under dash, only saying because hes had a new windscreen fitted and no chrome trim have they had trouble sealing it also ask for the chrome trim there getting dearer to buy now

exhibit 1, take one of the smoothest riding motors of the 1970s and lower it into a filling loosening monster

                Like the colour though

If I were in the market, I would tend to avoid a non standard colour. However, one of the finest Stags out there is the 4 wheel drive one owned and immaculately restored by the club valuation officer, Russel Lewis, and he painted in the most fantastic Jaguar Red. It looks the Bees Knees, and I am sure he knows more than me about values!

                        Mornin' all,
                        Colour - very subjective subject.
Over the last year or so I've seen totally restored cars finished in Jade Green (standard colour and stunning), but also in Nightfire Red metallic (Range Rover colour) and Grigio Metalazzo (Ferrari dark grey metallic)
Both these cars also looked stunning, but I wouldn't see the colour reducing their resale value, as they had been totally restored, with huge expenditure.
The Jade green car, whilst being in a standard colour, would probably sell for a similar price as the non-standard cars, as it had also been totally restored.
I suppose it all boils down to individual taste. Whilst my car is Tahiti Blue, I had a Dolly Sprint in Magenta, and really wanted a Stag in that colour, but couldn't find one when I was in a position to buy.

                        Stay safe,

                        Neil.
