Yes, they are independent of the ignition switch.

Yup, old school design. As my car already has a buzzer, I am going to add a circuit to buzz if I turn off the ignition and open the door. I rewired my MGB so they were ignition switched. ( relays of course)

          No schematic to troubleshoot with?

The buzzer should sound if the ignition is left ON and the door is opened.. I'm curious as to why have it sound if the ignition is off? Even my modern cars dont do that..

My moderns buzz if I open the door with headlights on and ignition off, this is the whole point of having the warning. I have wired a buzzer into the Stag lights to do the same.

I have powered my headlights via and ignition powered relay, so when the ignition is off the only thing left on are the led sidelights

Of course! Forgot that, Both of my moderns have auto lights so I just ignore them and they switch off by themselves! No need for warnings.

I’ve always found the 2 large white warning lights at the front of the car make a buzzer superfluous.

Except the time I left the car in a multistory without pushing the start button to kill the engine..

2 hours later I returned to find it idling away happily!
