    Clank as drive power applied

    Well something has suddenly developed.

When power is rapidly applied, somewhere in the transmission after the gearbox a loud 'clank' sound is heard. The drive feels normal thereafter but a vibration is felt in the car around 50mph....

As last August the car had a two new driveshafts, new rear differential, and nose diff bearing and seal, it would seem to be propshaft. With this in mind, I went under the car to check it. It looked and felt OK... but thats not the same thing as taking it off guess.

Is there anything else that could cause the clank and vibration before I remove it... (not looking forward to that as I hate being under a car on axle stands)

Which transmission does the car have?
In any case, check it’s crossmember mounts.

Dying prop shaft UJ's often have the sound of cellophane sheet (around flowers) being crunched.

Car parked with space in front & behind, handbraked on hard, slowly take up drive forwards, then reverse then forwards again - don't move just load the drive train. Any clunks?

Check all the diff bolts are torqued up ( drive shafts, cross member, Mounting Plate to diff and Mounting Plate to body ) and the the mounting bushes are in good condition. I had a similar issue a few years ago and the and the Differential Mounting Plate had fractured, which wasnt really visible but under power would cause a banging. I only found the problem when we use some crack detection spray but when we took it off it had snapped in two.

Yikes.. I wouldn't want that to snap or fall apart while driving
