Morning all,
I recorded Micky Flanagan's programme on "Patriotism" the other night.
He was commenting on the British refusal to consider buying Japanese cars when they were first introduced to the UK. "Cheap rubbish".
Naturally, this was all rather "tongue in cheek", as he went on about how British cars of that era were generally unreliable.
To "prove" this, he cut to a shot of a Stag, which was sitting alongside (I think) an MG F.
Next thing,15 feet of 8 inch diameter Scots pine, in the shape of a caber (as in "tossing the caber" - the Scots amongst us will know !!) crashes down on top of the poor Stag, completely wrecking it...oooow!
Playing the scene back revealed the car was well "doctored", in that the hardtop had been cut on both sides lengthways, the T-bar had been removed completely, top of scuttle and bonnet probably cut to allow collapse of everything for'd of the windscreen, and the grille sections flew off on impact.
I was a bit shocked, however checking the DVLA database revealed the car's last MoT was 2007, when it was white. (Colour on tv was a dark colour.)
I can only hope the poor thing was completely beyond saving prior to it becoming a TV star. R.I.P
Stay safe,
Neil.
