Engine speed

Hi to you all.

Having recently purchased my first stag i was surprised how fast the engine rev`s were in relation to how fast the car is going :shock:.

I have a MK2 V8 Auto and at 60mph the rev counter says 4500rpm also depending how hard you push the loud pedal but changes gear at about the same rpm is this correct or is there something wrong.

Welcome to the best Stag forum.

At 60mph the engine should be turning at approx 3000 rpm. Either the 'box isn't finding top gear or the rev counter is loopy.

Does it sound like 4500 rpm?

hard to say really never had a v8 before it does sound a little high rev`ed i think but it does find all the gears ok, certinly holds onto 2nd for a long time is there some sort of adjustment? i no there is on a Mk2 Jaguar

Has someone fitted a 6 cyl rev counter from a 2500? Have a look at the bottom of the face and make sure it says 8cyl....

It does sound like the kickdown cable needs a tweak though.....

Have to be from a cooking 2000, but I suppose it couldn't be ruled out - would accelerate like a stabbed rat though

Yes - at the bottom it will say RVI or RVC and state the number of cylinders - as to the the diff ratio, if you suspect it is wrong first check the speedo against a sat nav - could be the speedo reading slow too

that makes sense as i no it has had a new speedo when the engine was rebuilt

but then if the speedo was wrong and at 60mph i should be at 3000rpm then at 4500rpm i would be at around 85-90mph and it is definitely not doing 90

Hi Troy ? it's a natural process, somebody prompts something in your mind and off it goes, don't let them bully you, but as Andrew says, talking to yourself is typical of Stag owners. Welcome to the best car, and the best forum ! Martin.
