Neil
i had Rover 220 seats fitted in my Stag for a while and was very happy with them, also used them in my car when I too took part in the RBRR one year. I bought them from another Stag owner so they were already fitted on modified runners and so bolted into the car in a matter of minutes. I have now refurbished the original seats and swapped back. If you are interested in the Rover ones I still have them and would be happy to let them go.
cheers
Sean
Hi Sean..If it's not too much trouble (and possibly when/if you pass them over to Neil) I'd be interested to see some pics of the modified runners as have a set of these Rover seats put aside for future.
Sorry for hi-jacking your thread Neil.
Im not sure but thought the seats were the same , mine came from a 52 plate car , i use Dolomite seat runners on the seats taking the original seat runner of and turning the seat angle bracket round they then fitted the dolomite runner and fitted the stag with no drilling reqired
I've a pair of Recaro seats in mine, not from a production car but their aftermarket range.
What you have to remember when fitting any seat is to maintain the same centre line, remember the mounting points on the floor are offset, and most seats have mounting points that are not offset, so you need to fabricate mounts that take this into account.
Then you need the seat runners to be as low profile as possible between the fabricated mounts and the seat.
If you don't, you end up with a seat clashing the B post, and your head sticking above the T bar if you are tall.
I put a lot of effort in fitting mine with super slim seat runners, and have my seats exactly in the right position, and actually slightly lower than the original seats, which being 6'4" is beneficial.
If possible, would be great to see a photo of the seats in-situ. Recaro seats are on my long list of ‘I want’ mods and I’ve been looking at their after market range rather than hoping something might fit from eBay.

MJ, I'm truly jealous! I've been looking on this website but not really investigating the detail on size etc. Whilst you fabricated the off-set mounts were the low profile seat runners from Recaro, something else or fabricated again by your?
Seen a photo in the history of threads where some Recaro have been re-trimmed in leather with the matching 'basket' weave of the original vinyl which also look stunning.
I fitted these Alfa seats no fabrication needed just one hole in each Alfa runner was needed. Seats match and are way more comfortable and supportive than original plus I only paid £150 for the pair.

The seat runners came with my seats and are only probably 10mm thick. Basically they can't be any thinner. The fabricated brackets another 20mm thick on top.
I can't stress how tricky it was to get the seat in the right position relative to the B post and transmission tunnel, but still sat low.
I've seen a few who have mounted the seat too close to the B post or far too high.
My adapter brackets needed to be folded thin sheet, and the 20mm thickness was to allow the offset but still to be as close to the transmission tunnel as possible.
Basically I positioned the seat, and the seat/runner mounting holes are actually over the slope of the transmission tunnel.
It's not as easy as just getting a piece of flat bar and drilling some holes.
I have some pictures showing this will have to find them, I did this probably 15 years ago now.

Hi Timo ...were they out of a 147 3 door ? (i.e you get the tilt forward too). These are as I mentioned in first reply to OP as I like the similar fluting to original seats.
Agreed.."..it's not as easy as just getting a piece of flat bar and drilling some holes. "
Whilst I have an empty bodyshell I was curious to see how the Rover Tomcat seats might fit / look and what needs to be done so last night I offered them up.
The pressed steel runners on the Tomcats will need to go to get them sitting low enough then somehow retro-fit the Stag runners without increasing the height back again AND maintain the centre line.
Also, the original Stags runners are offset from the centre line of the seat squab. Trying to maintain this centre line with the Tomcat's doesn't leave much jiggle space. Its ether going to snag on the B post or the tunnel so you won't be able to move the seat forward sufficiently. Ok if you're 6ft or over and need the seat further back but I'm just 5ft 7'.
If I'm honest, whilst I like the look of the and comfort of the Tomcats I think it will be a No-Go. I won't give up yet but there's more important things on my restoration agenda, like rectifying the ravages of the Tin Worm so seats are way down on the list.
MJ - I'll PM you my address and if you could post out a set of offset brackets while I order my new seats, that would be great.....
I can see its not going to be the easiest of things to fabricate. Can see a lot of in and out with the seat trying to pattern out what is required and probably a couple of failed attempts along the way. If it comes off the 'I want' list on to the 'having it' one I'll plan to do it over the winter months when I have the car laid up
