Powerspark in a SW distributor that failed on me, ended up going pertronix, coughed and then failed. Within 50 miles of first start up

This video was done before I realised exactly how crap rotors and caps could be. I do not recommend rotors with rivets on them!!!!!

Like with powerspark and Pertronix and when fitting the unit over the top of the distributor cam, you need to get a rotor compatible with the lucas 35dlm8 distributor, rotors are very different between points and EI especially so on the Stag distributor. The wrong rotor could make the dizzy cap wobble

I have had the lumenition start to go one of the sign is the rev counter will flick.

Check the plugs and see what they look like as way too rich or too lean will cause the same issue.

In 20 years of being a qualified mechanic i have never been told " remember that 90% of ignition faults are fuel related and vice versa" its just isn't true. Two totally separate systems.

I watched the video. Too light on actual information. Yes, there’s bad quality parts available, agreed.
However the height difference isn’t related in any way to points or electronic ignition is it?
            did I miss something?

              That’s a joke.
my neighbour’s stag recently suffered a suspected ‘fuel pump’ failure..::asked for help to fix the no start condition.
Turned out to be a no sparky situation
              hence the joke.
lovely stag, lovely neighbour, but we are both going a bit deaf, myself having been a previous engine dyno technician in the 80’s & 90’s so can’t hear the fuel pump ticking as well as a few years ago now!

Hi, further to this post I (or rather Aldon Automotive in Brierley Hill West Mdlands, who did a great job) have managed to get to the bottom of this issue and I thought I would share it as it is quite unusual as to what the root cause was. In the bottom of the float chamber on the Stromberg carbs is a brass & plastic plug. The plastic part of this assembly acts like a kind of well that the needle valve jet sits in. On this plastic part are four tabs and one of these had broken off and under load when accelerating or going uphill this tab was being sucked up onto the needle valve thus cutting the fuel supply off to the one bank of cylinders. I have attached a picture of said plug and broken plastic tab so you can see what it is. Hope this could help someone if they have similar problems and may not be aware of this one.

still trying to work out how something gets sucked up onto the needle valve. Maybe floating in the path of the jet?

I had a bloody misfire when decelerating
turned out to be a Ebay rotor arm in the end
