Brake line routing in engine bay

Finally we are starting to put everything together in a freshly painted engine bay. I have taken pictures of how it was before i started to dismantle it, but I am not sure with the brake lines... It looks to me like they have been replaced before, and not very nice. Does anybody have a picture showing the Brake lines in the engine bay on a LHD car?

post#534 in the "new what did you do today" thread around page 36

I winged it, but think its near original. the bends going from the chassis rail down and forward to the crossmember were tough, I would never have been able to do it with anthing but steel plastic covered brake lines, called poly-armour. they bend so well even without tools.

The other place to look is Drews white/blue bavarian stag thread, not sure if its shown but a good resource for any left hookers..

unbelievably, I don't seem to have taken photos of the empty engine bay, but this was how my Stag was originally:

Although mine is a RHD the routing from the PDWA is the same. The routing to the PDWA on a LHD is very simple. Here is a pic of mine before stripping.

And here is a pic of another members car which I am following for my rebuild. Drew is correct. He did not post any pics as I use his restoration posting regularly for reference.

I did mine with a mini pipe bender available from screwfix or machine mart. See pic

That is the best type of bender I have tried, but I had trouble getting it to bend exactly where I wanted it, especially when there’s another bend within inches, like the mallard car.. my thumbs did it better in some cases..

Years ago I used to watch in amazement at instrument pipe fitters installing small bore stainless steel instrument, pneumatic and hydraulic pipework in control panels. It was treat to see a final cabinet with all the pipework perfectly aligned, plumb and straight. It is a skill that comes with years of practise. Same as a wireman in electrical panels. You can't learn these skills on one triumph stag.

Absolutely, same here with a CT scanner in a truck, place in Slough built it, they usually did BBC outside broadcast trucks, it was their first CT. The electrical panel was a work of art, it inspired me for years after.. I always made sure my installs were neat and tidy.

i think that the 2 brake lines going across the engine bay looked rather untidy. So when i restored my Stag i located the PDWA switch/block assembly inside the front wheel arch, which tidies up the engine bay.

I must admit it looks good and does tidy up the engine bay and is probably ok for a classic car which doesn't do a high mileage. However it does expose the PDWA switch to all the elements and muck thrown up whist driving. On my 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera the AC charging unit was located under the front wheel arch and I had to replace it due to excessive corrosion

When I repiped my brakes after engine bay respray I looked at about 10 other Stags for the layout, and they were all a mess and several different routes. Managed to get mine looking ok.

When I think of it, I remember wrestling with those brake pipes when I removed the starter motor. They were already messed up so I could not remove the starter. I guess the starter may be the reason they get bent out of shape on most cars?

I see that it is hard to make this area look organised. I am not very proud of the brake lines, but they are better than they were...

I think the routing of the cables are correct, my next question is how to route the clutch line?

                              They look fine!

                              yes it’s a difficult area!

Can’t help on the clutch line. When I got mine out it was a rhd one despite being sold and marked as a lhd
