    Something not right!

    Hi All

Something is not right about this Stag ad or is it me?

Surely a J reg would have a MK 1 interior and engine etc? Also I remember this car being advertised before and I'm sure it was a M reg then?

You are right, no sign of a Mark 1 Stag.

Seats, instruments, interior lights, trim /badges, wheels etc are all Mark 2.

Saying that being a complete restro only the original shell maybe all that remains of the original car...may be just the chassis plate...or a new stamped chassis plate!

I wonder how many complete restorations have been carried out where the completed car actually has no original parts apart from a chassis plate from a too far gone shell?

    Sad really in many ways.

    Mike.

No it is a different one-- they do about 2 a year. To be fair I think they do a damn good job . But IMHO They should have put some MK1 bits on this one if only the dials---which I beleive look better in Mk 1 guise

If you read the full ad he says he set out to convert it to a Mk2. Same advertiser as the lovely Tahiti car some months ago. I struggle to see how they make a living out of this with the amount they've clearly spent.

Got to admit it's another awesome restoration. Clearly done to enhance resale rather than originality but long term I'd have though originality would provide a better return. Wouldn't have cost any more.
They chromed a lot of stuff including the horseshoes whichI didn't think were chrome. They look good I'm wondering if this is a good solution as replacement trim quality seems questionable. Thoughts?

                  Hello everybody,

"they" as to referring to the restorers is a very relative term here, as the restorer is a "one man show", who does this more out of conviction than for making money.

He did my Stag, too, and I could see that he was not really making any money, but simply tried to do a very goodjob.

                  Kind regards, Dieter.

It is a lovely looking stag and is prob the best of both worlds imo as it has the later mk2 bits and bobs but is still tax exempt though

Can help but notice the centre console knobs for the heater and choke coudl do with replacing though and let down what is a superb car.

Whoever he is - wouldnt mind living next door to him

                          Hello Mark,

Yes, I did have some trouble when I collected that Stag in Nottingham. But Al, the seller, sorted that out and drove the Stag to Germany later.

The problem was that the preowner had told him the the engine was reconditioned short before Al bought it. So he put the engine aside, restored the car and put the engine in again without realizing that the preowner had built a 12-vane water pump into the housing of a 6-vane pump. This led to cavitation on the motorway resulting in overheating.

                          Kind regards, Dieter.

I believe Denis has one of his cars as well and is currently having engine trouble. (I could be wrong though).

Do MKI's have rear seatbelt mounting points? If they don't then this is a MKII shell. Just a thought.

                              I with you on this.

I am also worried about missing tags under the bonnet too. seems a shed load to spend on a car with dubious provenance.

I would be interested to find if any part of this car existed in 1971

                              :?

The engine bay is way too blingey but I love the interior
