    Questions on wheel studs

    When I got my Stag, back 20 years back, I got a bag of these wheel studs. My Stag has wire wheels. I searched this forum and saw photos of the correct types. Tony Hart mentioned he is making the correct type for the front which have not been available for a long time. Were suppliers sending the type of stud in the photo as a make do substitute?
    Can any other model Triumph use this type of stud? I'd be happy to donate them as I have 8. ( I am in USA however)

    Sujit. I don't know about them fitting other Triumphs, but that is not the right one for a Stag, even though they are being supplied as suitable. The area immediately under the head of the stud should be tapered to fit in to the tapered hole in the hub, and properly locate it.

      They look like Short TR splined studs for wire wheel splined adaptor figment, which are pulled through into the Car Hub stud holes from the front.

        Hello Mike,
        Thanks. I did find a side by side photo of the correct front and back studs. Posted here. I hadn't realized that there is a difference between front and rear.
        Stag no. 2 had wires and I replaced the studs with longer ones. Is there any harm in using the longer studs on the front? I will probably have to check and see what I insatlled.

          Yes there is a difference between front and rear wheel studs,there is also a difference in length in the later Dolomite 7/16 studs and Stag 7/16 studs only by a few mm

            Sujit.
            There can be a danger in fitting the longer rear studs on the front. With steel wheels with open ended wheel nuts it won't matter, but with alloys and their "Closed" nuts, the risk is that the stud will bottom in the nut before it has tightened on the wheel, and tightening it to the correct torque will very probable just shear the stud.

              Hello Mike,
              Thanks. I now know why the holes in one of front wire wheel adapters was drilled out.The PO had probably used rear studs, cut them down to size, and the shoulder of the stud probably prevented the adapter from fitting properly.
              By luck, I used correct replacement studs and I had a spare adapter. I'm sure I would have figured it out, with help from the forum, had the replacement adapter not fit.
