    Aussie Stag

    Hi all,

After may years of owning Italian cars I have decide to join the Prince of Darkness Stag ownership. It has a Rover V8 and ZF 4 speed box which was what I was after more for my piece of mind and also better suited to longer trips.

There are a number of projects I intend to do on it such as installing an AC system, central locking, heated seats, etc as it will not be a stock standard Stag.

First issue was to replace the manual switch for activating the reversing lights the previously owner installed. I welded an extra piece of stainless steel to the selector which now activates a micro switch when in reverse. This seems to work well and I also fitted LEDs to the reversing lights which reduced the current flowing though this small switch.

Also as it looks like the selector light bulb holder are now longer available I purchased one on line and also fitted an LED festoon bulb.

Next task will be to fit bigger engine mounts as the small ones on the car are starting to deform too much as they look too small. At the same time I will remove the 20mm spacer blocks and restore the cross member to its original position. This will also require the engine to rise up so mods to the transmission tunnel will be required.

    More to follow, cheers.

Are you going to fit factory or aftermarket A/C ?

Yes I will be installing an aftermarket AC system. I know what I am in for because I did a similar AC install for my Alfa 105 GTV where I fitted the evaporator where the glove box is.

Having dealt with many rusty panels on the number of many Italian cars, the rust in the Stag does not look so bad. I have already tackled the front section of both sills which was simple enough to use some mild steel sheet and bend up as close as possible. The rust in the boot lid and front valance can wait.

          Welcome to the SOC.
Hopefully you have great optimism and deep pockets! Fingers crossed the bodywork isn't hiding too many nasty surprises...
          Stay safe,

          Neil.
