    Distributor spigot diameter?

Does anyone know the proper dimension for the spigot on the bottom of a Stag distributor? I'm talking about the part that fits into the block.
I have one here that is slightly too large and I'll be fitting it into the lathe tomorrow to skim it down a bit. Trouble is, the existing distributor is back in the car and, when it was out I didn't have a caliper in the garage to measure the hole or the spigot that fits it! Now it's all back in the car so that I can use it until the replacement distributor is ready....
If you could let me know the correct diameter I'd be ever so grateful.

Thanks guys! I'll be at the lathe later today and report back.....

I now know what happens to cast aluminium when it's TIG welded.

Well, that was an education. The flange with the two fixing slots had broken and was TIG welded by a pal. After machining the flat underside I'd left it alone, but I didn't realise that the welding had distorted the part that fits into the block. You can see here where the cutting tool has taken off the high point....

And the is the measured size before machining:

              So afterwards, it was thus:

Just as a teaser, here's the centre shaft which I used as a centre for the machining operation:

              Thanks for the help!

I once had to smash a distributor flange & spigot out because it was so seized into the block. The engine may have been left outside though. Worth using some anti seize on the spigot possibly?

I have seen die cast aluminium that has swollen due to age or environmental conditions. It would not surprise me to see a distributor locked into a cast iron block if it had been outside, cue electrolytic action…

Thanks for the measurements, mine now fits perfectly!

Mine was near impossible to remove, I thought it was corrosion, but later when I had dismantled the engine I found half of the locking washer between the shaft and the spigot inside the block... I guess the tab had not been bent enough and had caught on the block.

Don't ever use copperslip with aluminium, copper & ali can do nasty things together.
