Oil pump Removal How??

Hi there,

I have an upgraded type spin off filter and want to remove and check the oil pump for wear etc do you have to remove the exhaust down pipe completely to get it out? or is there another way?

Any tips advice would be welcome

Me thinks you have to remove the exhaust down pipe - it's pretty tight down there!

Hi Dave,

I think you're right I have dismantled it from the manifold but it won't come down far enough to come away from the manifold. Not sure if I need to undo the other downpipe to give more freeplay!

If you remove the 2 set screws then you can get the pump out in a couple of pieces,
the problem removing the pumpis that the drive shaft will almost certainly be coming out with the pump, its this that stop's you being able to maneuver the pump out.

When you replace the pump first fit the drive shaft into the distributor end using thick grease to hold it in place , you should then be able to get the (oil primed) pump back in place.
