    wiring harness conundrum

The main wire harness in my ’73 is in such bad condition I’d feel safer if I replaced it with a new one. My problem is the car is a federal, but has been converted to RHD sometime ago, which has compounded some of the wiring issues. Can I replace it with a RHD loom, understanding I don’t need the seat belt/buzzer ‘safety’ options. Is this a viable swap?

My second issue is identifying the correct loom on Rimmer’s site? My comm.# is LE21440 U BW, but that of course doesn’t match their numbering system? The closest I can see is “Main Harness - RHD Vehicles - 313251
    Model-Mk2 to T25000LD” here:https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID005365

Is there another source for these looms?

    cheers

Well, I have rewired every LBC from scratch until the Stag. Now I am leaving the harness in place. Just replacing connectors and making my changes.

It has many harnesses. Main harness, relay block harness, console harness, cluster harness, rear harness, and all the sub harnesses in the steering column.

If you are RHD, I would buy the complete RHD harness as you want. Ignore how it started. Do be aware, the factory drawings in the manual have a few small errors, but you should be able to figure them out. Replacing it by far a smart thing to do. Only change is to use some dielectric grease in the connectors so they don't start to corrode.

I am not a fan of the funky unique relays they used. Making my own relay plate using standard Bosch style relays. Building my own wiper delay unit. Making a few small changes as all new HVAC controls, adding a Rostra cruise control, Hayden fan controller, and CB Black Box ignition. The basic design is actually pretty good. My biggest complaint is the lucar connector block where the alternator, battery and starter all merge. I put in a big power stud. In contrast, almost no circuit in my B did I like. Morgan was easier as it didn't really have any. TVR was worse of all. CS-130 alternator of course.

I do not know if the Rimmer harness are made as original. All the rolled pin connectors were welded, not just crimped. If the new ones are made that way great.

I bought a kit of all rear light sockets but they were such crap I could not use them. Rimmer did not respond. Wire brush in a Dremel was my solution.

You gave someone at Rimmers a wire-brushing?

          The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

As Glenn says above contact Autosparks. They make the looms for Rimmers and will likely charge you less to buy directly from them. Best to explain your car used to be Federal so they can make up the correct ones for you. Be warned they are well behind on orders due to the shutdown so there will be a long delay!

                  Hi Ian,
I arranged to visit Autosparks to ensure my loom was built correctly for my 72 MKII Auto with BW65 box, although I suspect this may be difficult at the moment.
One of the guys there knows all the intricacies of the Stag looms and can help you select the correct starting point.
For a small fee they can also customise the loom to add in additional wires or move existing ones around.
For example, I have additional wires for an electric fan override switch and header tank low-level warning lamp.
                  regards,
                  Den

Sounds like Autosparks is the go-to firm. A visit would be nice, but from the other side of the globe, I can't see it happening, regardless of any lock-downs
