    Front seat dilema

Following on from the 'my left hip' post, today was the day I was going to fir the diaphragms to both front seats.

Got both seats out no problem, but then after much musing, something dawned on me that was not clear before.

I could see before I took the seats out that both diaphragms were missing, but I did not realise that the seat refurbisher must have though, stupid diaphragms will always be rubbish and fitted webbing instead. I had assumed you had webbing AND diaphragms.

Of course this leaves no holes for the diaphragms to be fitted and would fitting diaphragms achieve anything anyway?

So my question is what to do:
    1. Remove the webbing and fit diaphragms
    2. just leave the webbing
    3. leave the webbing and fit the diaphragms as well.
The webbing is some sort of elasticated webbing - it doesn't have much pull stretch. I am sure the seat refurbisher has chosen it because they know their business. It maybe that the webbing is as strong as the diaphragms.. its difficult to tell. One half of me is considering fitting neither and shapping a piece of plyboard instead as that would give better support and have some flexibility...

Advise is welcome... typical Stag you come to do one straightforward job to find out .. well its not straight forward

Looks pretty good actually. My Scheel sport seats in the RS2000 are similar, only I'd note that there are about 6 webbing straps and they run from left to right, which seems to be the way that one does it with webbing straps.

After a hard day at it, I decided to add an extra layer of foam which was much deeper than the photos shows

      and then the diaphragm.

you can see how I had to really stretch the diaphragm over the extra foam which is ontop of the original foam and webbing

It certainly has made the seat plump up...

Whether it has fixed my left hip... time will tell.. but it certainly won't harm the situation... flipping hard work though..

Your seats certainly have been "done" previously.
When I removed mine earlier this year, they still had the original maker's labels (L.C.P. Trim Ltd., Cradley Heath, Warley, West Midlands) dated Nov '76. The car was first registered November 1977.
They originally used black rubber webbing straps, 3 fore-and-aft, and 3 crossways, the cross-ways ones towards the front of the seat.
With good old-fashioned hessian beneath the vinyl cover. And the hessian was still in good condition...ah, good old traditional ways....
When Jim at Southeastern Trimmings took them apart, he did remark the webbing might have been slightly saggy, but the shape of the seat base was still pretty good.
I know the car was in a state of rebuild between 2008 and 2014, with just under 32,000 on the clock when I bought it in 2018. I think it was because I put 2,500 miles on it that the seat back side bolsters started to crumble into dust, so went the "whole hog", having both the backs and bases refurbed.
Your base certainly has a good shape to it, hopefully you will find your hard work will make things easier on your hip.
          Stay safe (and comfortable!)

          Neil.

In any case, all looks better than what met me - a bedroom carpet and wire combination!

I don't drive my Stag on long journeys but in minivan I drive daily, I do get a pain down my leg. I think its a case of Sciatica. I bought a memory foam booster seat and that helps.
