Front brakes

Good day folks,

I'm currently investigating a front end squeak and have just removed the RH break pads. The outer pad is well worn yet the inner one has very little wear, given the number of miles since I last checked them, I'm somewhat surprised. Anyway, I guess that the inner cylinder is not functioning as it should.
My question is: Is there a way of checking the movement of the cylinders whilst the caliper is in situ?

If you have a noise when your driving its more likely that the outer piston on the caliper is sticking rather then the inner. The easiest way to check would be to put the pads back in then push them away form the disc ( theres loads of way do this) so the pistons are fully home. Then get someone to slowly apply the brakes and watch what happens. Repeat if necessary.

Its a pain to do the brake seals, sometimes it cheaper to get recon caliper if the pistons are seized (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-Of-R...gAAOSwM1FcfDg8). There again doing the above is sometime enough to free off the pistons.

There again this could be the ideal time for treating your car to an upgrade.

in your case its the inner sticking try pushing the outer piston back with the inner pad removed, any movement?
reverse the pads so the thick one is on the outer, put the thin one on the inside, give the pedal a good stamp, this should move the sticky piston, if no movement, then rebuild or replace the caliper, with general pressure on the pistons and no pads in there is a risk of the piston and seal popping out and the sticky one staying put
