    What Choke Cable?

I am sure that many members have gone down the route of replacing their Strombergs with the Weber carb. When doing so did anyone replace the "Y" twin choke cable with a single straightforward cable complete with switch to connect into the choke warning light? If so, can anyone recommend an appropriate replacement?

Use the long cable and tie up the short cable. Don't cut it off in case you ever go back to Strommies. If you do, a replacement 2 cable choke is expensive and a pain to fit.
    How do I know.....

Thanks SaskStag, have already done just that, but cable keeps jamming . I know I will never go back to Strommies so I am looking to replace with simple (cheaper) cable - hence what is suitable.

        That's what I said...
Hopefully it'll work out that you won't need to reconsider the Weber.
Then you could just cut the short cable?

When I fitted the Eidelbrock I cut the choke cable. I will never go back to the Strombergs, sold them.

Just to be clear, I want to replace the existing Y cable with a single strand cable that can be connected to the choke warning light. Maybe from another Triumph - 2000/TR. Any ideas?

The choke cable from a Dolomite is a single and has the same choke light switch. This issue might be the length. I have one from a Dolomite Sprint that I can measure the length of. Also if you buy the complete thing the knob will be different.

Much appreciate the info re Dolomite cable. If you are able to confirm that the length is sufficient to connect with the Weber then that would be great and I can then hopefully source one.

Why not withdraw the inners through the outer and replace with a single bicycle brake cable. Remove knob and cables, drill out the solder holding the twin cables in the knob extension metal bit (there’s probably a technical name) silver solder or araldite single cable in the place of the twins, feed through and cut to length. Refit knob and warming lamp. Job done. Saves the faffing about trying to fix the &@@&:&&: green clips onto a new outer cable.

That's certainly another avenue I may try

                      Hi,

Just checked and the Choke cable on the Dolomite Sprint - which has the same choke light switch as the Stag - is 36", that is the distance from the panel mounting to the end of the outer, the inner is about 3" longer. It is the same cable on the Dolomite 1500TC, 1850 and Sprint.

NOTE: the inner is solid and not stranded and also it is not a quarter turn to lock type which the Stag is (or should be), the solid centre core stops the choke returning on its own.

Thanks for that. Do you think that 36in is long enough for the Stag?

Choke Cable fixed. I tried to withdraw both inners as suggested by goldstar but was unable to do so as the jamming problem recurred. As I was replacing the dash wood anyway, I removed the complete choke assembly and discovered the reason for the jam was that the redundant cable outer had separated from the "knob extension metal bit" and the inner had become untwisted and mini "birdsnested" This problem was, I suspect, caused by the redundant cable being left unsecured at the far end whilst coiled up out of the way - so beware Sask Stag if you are leaving yours in that state!
Anyway, once the assembly was clear of the car, I was able to discard the redundant outer, cut off the redundant inner (and tidy up the area where the cable joins the metal), thread the now single, longer, cable back into its outer and low and behold a fully functioning single choke cable attached to the Weber.
Thanks for all your help guys.
