    New fuel pump anomalies

    Hi,

I started to have a few issues with my old fuel pump a while back - it sometimes didn't pump properly and it was starting to tick exceptionally loudly! (no it wasn't shorting across to the car body)
Anyway, I brought a new one from LD Parts and have just got around to fitting it.

It took a little while to prime (thanks to all for the thread on here ref. that) and now seems to pump ok.
    A few anomalies though:
    • When turning the ignition on, the pump starts but does not stop when pressure is reached (I have a gauge on my Malpassi filter so know it's at pressure). With my old pump I used to wait until it had stopped ticking prior to starting the car. There are no leaks that I can find.
    • Once the car is running the pump seems to react in a similar way to the old one but rather than a steady tick, it does a series of 3-4 clicks in succession. Fuel pressure remains fine.
    • After moaning about the loudness of my old pump, I struggle to hear this one even with the boot open.
Has anyone else experienced these issues with this pump?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have one, it's been in the car since I got it five+ years ago. The pump ticks like mad for a while on every start, then slows down but never seems to completely stop even when the float chambers are full.

      Thanks for the quick reply.

That makes me feel a little better that I have done nothing wrong and that the pump isn't defective!
Maybe I will just have to get used to it being slightly different.......

      Thanks again,

      Jimmy

        Hello Jimmy,

I too have a Malpassi, but I'm not sure that they recommend that the gauge is left on the filter once the pressure has been set. It is a bit vulnerable to damage, and mine came with a blanking plug, so that it can be removed.

          Dave,

          Thanks for the reply.
As you have recommended, I do not leave the gauge fitted during normal running.
I only re-fitted it to check the fuel pressure setting after changing the pump.
The blanking plug is now back in place.

          Regards,

          Jimmy
