    Distributor install

I installed my dizzy yesterday, followed the ROM basically and did a static timing. The timing point when I rotate the engine by hand is right at the end of the adjustment (towards advance IIRC) , which I'm not happy with. Once the engine is started I am wondering weather the centrifugal will give a little advance and bring that towards the middle, anyone have experience on that?

If I move it 1 tooth will that help?

One tooth should do the trick.

You might have to move one tooth and move the plug lead position around one place from the factory position.

One tooth is about one and a half positions on the dizzy cap

Useful information, thanks Neil. I'm getting closer to installing my DIY computer controlled ignition system which does away with the vacuum and centrifugal advance mechanisms. The trial fit of the distributor seemed okay but I was wondering how much each tooth added or subtracted from the timing position. Mechanically I have to set the static firing point at 0º because the software does the rest.

          Well that was weird..

I moved it one tooth, looks like I had it wrong and although the rotor arm now pointed exactly to the far coil bolt as per the ROM, it was pointing exactly between 2 Rotor cap positions, when I ran a static setup it fired in the middle of the adjustment but I didn’t even get a spark on the lead. So I went another tooth and now #2 is one place anti clockwise from normal but the rotor arm is now pointing right at it, and static 10 degrees seems in the middle of the adjustment.

Cant get my head around that.. But it’s fine. Hoping to fire this puppy up soon! Just Awaiting my recored radiator, maybe next week?
