MK 1 Steel wheel help

Hi all
I want to keep my Steel wheels with trim look but fit wider tyres. Due to them being I believe 5j 185 is probably the max. I would like 205 ideally to give it a slightly wider but standard look. I have looked at banding which I’m not too sure and with the trim fitment may not work. Another option to have a wider steel wheel made. I’m sure this is not the first time this has cropped up. Rather than re invent the wheel so to speak has anyone done this or ideas?

sorry I can't help you with the answer your looking for but I do like to see a Stag with steel wheels and hub caps,very rare these days

actually just to add i have Stag alloys with 195s on and they do rub a bit on full lock so maybe 205s will be a problem?
I was thinkiing of going back to a more standard size when I have to change tyres in the future

205 on a 5" is a bit big as it will roll in corners, have you or anyone else considered tr6 wheels? 6x15 steel

Steel and alloy wheels on the Stag are both 5 1/2 J, (5.5 inch) so the same tyres can be used on both. I think 205s might cause problems however. I have been using 195/70s for years.

Mike. This is from the early Repair Operations Manual. The 1977 version states the same, but adds the alloys at 5.1/2J
