Moving the Stag Brake pedal to the left

Is it possible to move the Stag brake pedal with a manual gearbox to the left a little? My problem is that my foot catches the brake pedal when accelerating in an unintended heel & toe move. My feet and shoes are not particularly wide though a dodgy hip might mean that my heel rests a little to the left and the foot is not truly vertical and sits a little diagonal and catches both pedals.

I am not looking for much of a relocation, perhaps 1/2". It is not a problem I have in any of my other cars, just the Stag. If I cannot reposition the pedal then I may consider narrowing the pedal.

    Anyone done this?

I just painted my LHD pedals. There is no movement that be done unless you cut and reweld the pedal. I doubt you can bend it. Grind it smaller is an easier option. The pedals are different for LHD and RHD stags. Maybe source a LHD pedal.

Ive done it on mine but mines an auto, its not straight forward , i cut a bit of the pedal and put the peace i cut off on the other side of the pedal this pushes the pedal over a bit , you also have to move the brake light switch over as well

After removing mats, carpet etc and positioning any wiring away.If you have or access to an oxy-acetylene set and are very very careful you could reach under there, heat the pedal pendant a cherry red and bend it across.

certainly make for an interesting call to the insurance company

Removing the pedal box is not a particularly difficult job for someone who may be able to remove the foot rest part of the brake pedal and reweld it 1cm to the left. Might then make access to the clutch tricky so who ever does it may need to work with you to understand how problem could be resolved.

the pedal itself is quite a robust setup, bending it may cause it to break open

Hi Alan...May be an idea to contact some of the mobility conversion companies if you can locate one local as they will be experienced in specialist pedal mods but may cost a pretty penny.

As an alternative - I can't recall how much room there is to the right of the accelerator pedal as mine is currently stripped out BUT ..what about moving that slightly to right so long as doesn't foul the A post / carpet depending on how much movement you need.

The accelerator assembly is a simple rod and removed as a separate unit to the Brake/Clutch pedal box. Similar to Ians suggestion ..heat the rod up and apply some pressure whilst in a vice to put a slight double bend/ dog leg in the rod to keep the pedal pad on a straight plane. This will however shorten the rod and raise the pedal slightly with the lost length.

Bare in mind, increasing the distance between brake and accelerator could increase split second timing to hit that brake in an emergency or even slip off the brake if you don't plant your foot correctly !

It is very easy to remove the pedal pivot shaft so that the brake pedal can be worked on outside the car. Maybe worth fitting new bearings whilst at it. I had to do that several years ago on my MOD Stag having received an MOT advisory for excess play in the brake pedal.

why not cut the side of the pedal off with a grinder, then weld or bolt a new pad on top but moved to suit your needs, you could get a pedal rubber from a different car first to gauge the size needed

                    Phil,

Thanks for your suggestion, I am now thinking along those lines and looking at my TR6 pedals to see if they could be suitable.
