Grant piston rings

I have just fitted these, I was VERY careful when fitting the rings, and whilst tight, they were no trouble at all to get into the bores. I didn’t have to reposition the ring compressor at all for any of the 8 pistons. I did what I have always done with segmented rings which is to tighten the ring compressor then, with a rubber hammer, gently tap the compressor all around in the area of the oil ring, then tighten again. We shall see, fingers crossed!
The engine is not finished yet but I think I will leave them in and keep an eye on them once running, not sure what alternatives there are from what I read? The bores are not great – wear is OK – but they are corroded in places but the rings appear to seal OK in the damaged areas and it ran fine pre strip down so I am running as is with a hone and rings. I know that at some point the engine will need to be looked at in that area again, But I am spending enough money without boring an 8 hole motor at the moment as the car is a bare shell in primer!!
PS I used the same ring compressor that TH uses.Last edited by Alacrity; 28 August 2020, 14:48.Auto transmission rebuilding since 1979 - for my sins!
