    Lumenition ignition fault finding

Hi Went to get the stag out of the garage and would not start . Checked it over and no spark . Last time out was cutting out on start up but eventually ran ok and took for a run and all seemed ok .
Testing the ignition system . By connecting the blue and black wire only got a weak spark from the coil , changed the coil and spark now good from coil . Tested the optical switch and no spark from breaking the beam with a bit of card . Tested voltages. Have 7.5 v on red wire and 2.5 v between blue and black , piece of card in the beam and voltage is the same .
So I am guessing that the optical switch is faulty . This would be the 2nd one in 18 months .
Rather than buy a new switch was thinking about changing the whole system and have seen a power spark system but I have no experience of them ,or any suggestions what to change for .
    thanks .

    Hi
I had similar problem with Lumenition system about 5 years ago. The previous owner had changed the Lumenition system twice in the previous year !. I opted for the Powerspark system. It hasn't let me down at all. I did buy a spare second Powerspark to use as backup but haven't taken it out of the packaging so far. Simple to fit. Well worth the money. Hope this is of some help.

With Lumenition systems the usual culprit is the connector between the optical sensor and the power box. If you disconnect that, clean the three contacts and re-tension the female crimps, it should be good to go. The other thing to check is that the black wire is properly connected the chassis ground and hasn’t come loose.

Just removed a luminition system from another members car. Could be useful if someone needs spares? Was still working, just added the in dizzy power spark to be neater.
