    Black wire from speedo dial???

Gent's removed front of dash to fit constant feed to the clock wire for my new cd player.

When I went to screw the facia back into poition I noticed a black wire leading from the back of the speedo dial but could notsee where the end plugged into. It has a male terminal on it I think

    Mike,

This black lead is the earh for the speedometer lighting.

Peter got you, but where should it connect to, sorry but I'm really poor with electrics.

At the moment it is just floating around where should I attach it to. May have been floating around for a while but can't be sure

Gent;s I'll have another go to see if I can get an answer on this one, although Peter did reply, still a bit lost.

Could someone tell me where the black wire coming from the speedo actually connectsto. Have been told it is an earth wire but surely it do's not just float around in the dash??? Or maybe I'm missing something??

          Hi Mike

I assume your 'floating' lead has got an ordinary female spade connector on it? & also, IIRC, it's got two black wires going into it?

Almost all black wires are earth wires and IIRC the earth connector on the speedo is a male spade actually sticking out ofthe back of the speedo casing. Can you see one like that?

If you've answered 'yes' to both of those then connect them together and abracadabra - hopefully

Ultimately it needs to go from Speedo Housing to the metal of the body somewhere Mike. If it's connected to the Speedo already the other end either joins other Black wires which then go to the body or it needs to be connected to the body directly.

              Mike

On the dashboard I have just removed from my donor car the black (earth) wire has a female connector and plugs into the bottom rear of the speedo casing. However, this is off a Mark 1 and so may differ slightly from your car.

Basically as the other guys have already said, connect the black wire from the speedo casing to a convenient piece of structural metal work behind the dash. If you look carefully you should see several otherearth wires behind the dash so join to the same place as them.

              Good luck

              Bruce
