MK1 spare parts engine for my Mk2

I have been looking at a MK1 engine out of a 71 Federal Stag (not sure if it matters). The Owners has had it running but took it apart because of a knocking sound that he diagnosed to be a valve guide. He could not remove one of the heads, saw scratches in one of the cylinders and decided to go for a Rover engine instead.

The block and pistons were actually on the floor, they did not look rusty but... The one free head had the usual corrosion. Crank looked good, bearings and pistons looked to be original items.

Our Mk2 engine is 2. Oversize on pistons and The crank has been reground 2/3 times. The heads have been rewelded in the past and is installed with a 1mm saver shim.

I am not willing to give much for the MK1 engine anyway, but what parts can I really use? What would you value this to?

£750 -£850 if you want it £ 1000+ if you really want it.
I paid £500 for a good / rebuilt bottom end that hadn’t had the crank ground or hardened ...5 years ago.
20 years ago I gave £450 for 2 engines that were non runners only 2 heads included.
10 years ago I gave £850 for a rebuilt engine complete, but needing a full rebuild due to age since it was rebuilt...needed stripping and checking due to gaskets having all relaxed.
it is getting harder to find in reasonable condition.

As far as the block and crank goes I don’t believe there is a difference between mk1 or mk2 Mk1 heads have slightly less volume. UK MK2 have domed pistons which give a higher CR and the heads have slightly more volume to accommodate them. federal pistons on mk 1 are at 8.5 (same as uk mk1). Later federal got more dished pistons that took cr down below 8. Domed pistons require the mk2 heads but the only new pistons easily found new now are basically mk1 pistons which will fit either heads. (if you already have oversize pistons are they domed?) The block would probably need a rebore so you need to work out what you can reuse..

Due to skims and decking my mk1 engine with county pistons at +20 is running at around 9.1 CR so it’s not awful!
