    Hard Top refurbish

Hello again, I've purchase a hard top for my stag but it's in need of a refurb. Is it reasonably easy to do. Are there any idiots guides out there that are worth obtaining. The hard top is not in too bad a condition but could do with the headlining replacing as well as painting. Does a new headlining include the PVC edging that runs around the bottom under the back and side windows. Any information gratefully received, thanks Terry

    Hi Terry

I don't think that you can get the pvc edging anymore . when I did my hardtop I could not get them but paddocks supply a fabric substitute

        Hi,

When I did mine the headlining kit come with all the trim needed for the edging as well, only tip is to remember is which order the rails go back as they are all different sizes, plus the use of a hairdryer to help stretch the material, biggest pain was replacing the rear window.

hi, i think he means the 4 metal strips that are threaded into the lining that keeps it taut and fixed in place.

                Morning Guys,

did the headlining on mine this winter, not too bad of a job, but it's easy with a bit of heat on it, eg hairdrier, to get it nice a tight. you will need some evostick for the edges, and you also need to get some specal pop rivets from Peter atLD PARTS, these are shorter than normal, for the seal rails at the front and back.

You need to strip the hard top of all the fittings, handles, railsetc and all glass as the head lining wraps around and is glued around there. One tip when pop riviting the seal strips at the back and front , get yourself as small nut , about 2BA,that sits inside the rail, and put it between the rivet and the gun head, as the gun head will not fit inside the rail, so that the rivet is pulled tight.

The only other pain is the strips around the bottom of the widows, ie aound the bottom of the hardtop, but just take your time.

Hope that helps, any other info just ask , will do my best to explain

                regards

                Tony

The three strips on the side and rear edges are riveted on via clips so these need drilling out first.I don't think you can unhook them without removing the rivets but it's beenover four years since I took mine off.

The front upper one is held on with little plastic clips so it's quite easy to remove.

I've noidea how you remove the two long side chromes down the guttering. When I had my hardtop re-sprayed the sprayer removed them destroying them in the process. They're NLA as well so a replacement pair took a bit of finding.

I really must re-assemble my hard top. It's defiantly a warm summer’s day job so you can get the headlining nice and stretchy.

                            Terry,

The side and rear bottom s/steel strips are held in place with metal clips (630881 on diagram) that are frequently rotten. The trim slides up from the bottom and snaps into place. Removal will involve locating the clips and levering the trim from the top.

The long trims on the gutter simply snap into place. Removal requires carefully levering them off with a wide-blade screwdriver. As Nick says, they can be damaged, so take your time.

Front trim is held in place with plastic trim clips GHF1164. These will snap and must be replaced.
