    Rear seatbelts

    Hi team,

I've searched the forum and found as many posts as I can on rear seatbelts, but I can't seem to find one photo showing where the retractors actually go. (Apart from one guy who put the retractors in the middle of the seat, which is not really what I want to do...)

Has anyone got any experience of the Rimmer Bros 3 point inertia belts: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-RS1394INRBLACK

And how you have fitted the retractor and whether it fouls at all on the hood, or if it retracts ok?

    Many thanks

    Chix

    Hi Chix,
I have fitted the Securon rear retractable seat belts with no problems. You can see the positions of the retractors within the side hood well, there are cut outs in the cubby panels already cut, you just have to make a slot in the material.
Initially i had problems with the belts retracting as they were binding on the material as they went through the cubby panel slot. This was overcome by a very helpful SOC member who made surrounds for the slots and the belts work just as well as the front ones now.
Because of where the retractors are fitted you have to pull the belts out of the cubby panel and not from the centre. Hope this is of help.
    Andy.

That’s exactly what I needed to see! Thanks so much Andy.

      By the way, 4.2 V8? Nice!! I’m running a 3.0 V6... loving it!

I prefer the seat belt rettractors in the middle ,pullling the belts out from the bottom always seams odd to me

They're in!!! Really pleased, pull out from the top like the front belts, all neat and tidy, didn't even have to drill/ cut/ bend anything.

Smashing job, and only took me an hour

On another forum years back there was a heated discussion about adding 3 point belts to a Stag. The concern was the part of the belt going over the back of the seat and if in an accident is it strong enough. US Stag's had lap belts from day 1. Mk2' had 2-point inertia lap belts. When my kids where young I had them in the front in their child seats. The seats, Britax child seats, came with a special clamps built into the seat to stop the belts from moving. Essentially the belts were looked in place.

I did think about lap belts, but even a sudden stop would be enough for the rear passengers to smash their faces on the back of your seat/ head.

I thought about it and figured they're a lot safer than lap belts in the event of a low impact collision, and even if the rear seat isn't strong enough in a high impact collision, they are still a) better than nothing and b) better than lap belts!

But who knows. Drive safe regardless...

                Good stuff..

When I do go 3 point I was thinking along the lines of adding the extra third points really high in the wall between the boot and the hood well. Maybe somewhere around the boot hinges, Then having the shoulder belt on a quick release as used in racing harnesses. It could be released to raise or lower the hood then reconnected either under or over the hood.

Meanwhile I have got a pair of “latch” tethers for the baby seats. (Grandad needs to indoctrinate them) Same kind of deal, I will use the static 2 point to secure the seat and the latch fittings to tether the tops.

Fortunately the weather here means that I seldom need to raise the hood

Haha, not any time soon, got cooling problems to sort out! Why, what did you want to see specifically? I might have some pics of how they are anchored...
