      Off the subject, but I have a set of Wolseley 1500 rear drum brakes fitted to my Midget, and there, the brake cylinder is designed to slide on the back plate.
      The hand brake lever acts on the cylinder itself, hence the need for it to move.

        That is the set up on the early (modern) Midget. We also have a 1961 Midget and the handbrake operates on a lever which is part of the cylinder (GWC1114). It's probably not the same part as the Wolseley but similar in design. It seems quite odd to have it "loose" when fitting these.
