    Water pump issues

I spend many hours going over and rebuilding a water pump for Stag no. 2. The impeller's base has been machined. The shaft is a Zephyr branded one The seals and bearings are new. Made sure its the Stag 6 vane impeller and not he Dolomite 6 vane impeller ( Have been told it is slightly smaller). The impeller when installed pushes the seal down so no gap between seal and base of impeller.
Installed correctly, else cover cover would not fit.
Made sure it sat home in engine block. However, with engine not running, the bloody thing leaks quite badly. Went trying to start the engine, (Still trying to get it running for longer duration) it leaks even more.
I can't believe the seal is bad. Its new and I did inspect it before fitting. I know people say to let it bed in, but this is a bad leak and not a trickle and as mentioned it's leaking with the engine running.

For those who have changed your water pump and it needed time to bed in, did it leak with a stationary engine?
I rebuilt water pump on Stag no. 1 many years back, it's started to trickle now.

Please don't mention to go external.

Investigated this a bit further this evening. With an inspection mirror, I can see the bottom of the manifold has a core plug it. Water is dripping from the bottom of the Mk1 early manifold. I'm trying to save a '71 Fed. Stag by resurrecting it from and engine from a 71 UK Stag. I have no reference point for the UK engine.

Replaced mine with a new one from the brothers when mine started to leak. Upon removal of the old one I found I had a twelve vane pump with a six vane cover, so replaced the cover to match new pump. No leaks, running or not.

I know Julien will be able to give you some good tips.
