    Courtesy/T-Bar/Puddle lights/Horn/Cigar lighter not working

Hi All, some help please. The courtesy lights on my mk2 work intermittently. Thought I would have a look. Big mistake. Took the drivers side light out, the back of the bulb holder touched the frame of the centre console and sparked. The wiring is like a birds nest behind the radio. Upshot is none of the above work and the stereo is blown! Will not work although there is 12v feed. I have checked all the fuses I can see. On the bulkhead and the 2 behind the radio. I have looked a the wiring diagram and it looks like all the purple wire are permanent live? But cant tell if they are fused anywhere. Fuel pump works and car starts. Am I missing something? Any help gratefully received. Cheers Mark

Yes, sounds like the purple wire circuit - these come from the Battery Control Fuse (nearest the middle on RHD cars). Not sure why the radio isn't working, (the feed normally comes from the White/ Pink) but depends how this is wired - the purple circuit may have been chosen to preserve its memory.

As there are 2 purple wires from the battery fuse terminal it’s unlikely you have taken a wire out. One wire feeds the right side interior lights the other the left side. They also feed the clock, horn, cigar lighter and headlamp flash. The only caveat here is the ground switched interior lights, but I cant imagine they changed from 2 wires for that

Go back to that battery fuse and recheck it, also the fuse holders have been known to get intermittent where the rivet comes loose.

Did you do a visual, or electrical check? If the former, try temporarily substituting with the adjacent fuse (Ignition Control) and try the purple circuit lamps etc again. Also see if the indicators, temp & fuel gauges still work (with ignition on). According to the wiring diagram, the RHS footwell lamp is a branch from the purple circuit fed from the interior light switch by the gearlever, so a disturbed wire at the lamp location is unlikely to break the complete circuit.

If the fuse is confirmed OK, then check that the fuse clips are clean and springy (disconnect battery for this). Then it's down to wiring checks - as it's affecting all the purple circuit, start with the back of the fusebox and relay panel. I hope you're flexible, though removing the parcel shelf will give better access.

I note in your initial post, you said "there is a 12V feed". Where was that?

I'll PM my number if you want to call.

Problem solved!! After speaking with STAGJONNO who convinced me to take each fuse out and test continuity even tho I already tested all the fuses on the car and got continuity. The battery control fuse was blown even tho I had continuity at the fuse box! So a lesson learned for me anyway, that you can't take anything for granted. All systems working and the icing on the cake is the stereo works also 😊. Massive thanks to STAGJONNO for taking the time to speak with me. 👍👍👍mark

                All's well that ends well.

if u test continuity of the fuse while in the holder the meter provided the continuity. I always remove one end of the fuse from its holder and check.
