CLUTCH master cylinder

Hi all
I have just received a new clutch master cylinder and there seems to be a slight differance I got the new one from SOC parts, on the push rod there is a ribbed metal sleeve on my old cylinder the end of the sleeve is under the rubber rubber cap, on the new one it is not under the rubber cap on the cylinder, so which is right please???

My old one was under. This prevents the rubber chafing on the rod I would assume

Will the oil leak out of the seel if I do that ??

It's just a dust cover. the the rod won't fall out as it is held in the cylinder with a circlip.

the seal to prevent fuild coming out is on the other end of the rod behind the circlip.. it's a cheap simple repair unless the cylinder is old and rusty. you just need a pair of circlip pliers and a repair kit from LD Parts

Oh no it isn’t...

Well not on all versions anyway, mine popped out a treat! I shoved it back in smartish and damaged the piston seal, had to get a rebuild kit..

it was the type with the external dust cover.

Are you sure Terry you are not referring to the clutch slave cylinder? that I call pops out.
